Delores T Jeffers

Mom said, “When He calls, I’m ready” and on Thursday the fourteenth, God called her home. Lovingly known as “Law” she was our champion and our Angel. The sun rose for Delores T. Kennedy Jeffers on September 3, 1932 in Church Hill, MD to the late Hilda and Theodore Kennedy. The sun set for her on April 14, 2016 surrounded by her loved ones at MedStar Washington Hospital in Washington, DC. She was the third oldest of six siblings raised in the Church Hill Community and educated in the Queen Anne’s County public schools. Over the years, she was employed with Vita Food in Chestertown, MD, Swing Cannery in Price, MD, Green Giant in Woodside, DE and Saulsbury Brothers of Ridgely. She worked for Saulsbury Brothers for over 20 years but she was a faithful servant to God for many more. Sister Delores joined Bethel A.M.E. Church in Church Hill, MD under the leadership of the late Rev. James Walker, Jr. and was a member for over 40 years. She was an active member of the stewart board and the missionary society. During Sis. Jeffers 40+ years at Bethel, she was president of the Helen Clark Missionary Society for more than 10 years and the superintendent of the Sunday school for many more. She enjoyed working with the children’s Easter, Children’s Day and Christmas programs which were always something special! Sis. Jeffers assisted with the Food Link Program when it started in 1996. She touched many lives and was an expert with spiritual encouragement. Sis. Jeffers was preceded in death by husband, Morton Jeffers; one sister, Edith Hawkins; four brothers, Lee Stansbury, Howard, Ira and Irving Kennedy; a great-grandson, Christopher Bond and god-daughter, Tia Little. She leaves to cherish her memory five loving children: Jean Bond (Kenneth) of Philadelphia, PA, David Jeffers (Janice) of Chestertown, MD, Donald Jeffers (Edna) of Glassboro, NJ, Hilda Jackson (Darrell) of Smyrna, DE and Gordon Jeffers (Brenda) of Clayton, DE; nieces, Cheryl Wilkerson, Sandra Stansbury and Holly Groom; nephews, Bishop Howard Kennedy and Peter Flamer. She is survived by 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a very special support trio, Reverend Janet Rochester, Rev. Rosalind Hoxter and Exhorter Beverly Wheeler; along with a host of cousins, friends and church family.
