Delores Hutchins

Delores Nellie Blackston Hutchins, went home to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Lewin and Anna Mae Blackston. She was born on Monday, April 5, 1937, in Kent County, Maryland. Delores received her education in the Kent County Public School System and graduated from Henry Highland Garnett High School. She received certificates of recognition for her contributions of service to various children's organizations. Delores was employed at Leeds Travelwear, Vita Foods and retired from Magnolia Hall. Delores was joined in holy matrimony to the late Thomas Hutchins, Sr., and out of that union, they became the proud parents of four beautiful children. Delores was a loving, kind, compassionate and caring woman, who always had a beautiful smile. She loved and adored her children and her family. She loved reading her Bible, singing, cooking and watching her favorite TV shows, especially westerns, Gilligan's Island and soap operas. Delores loved the Lord, and began her walk with Christ at an early age at Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church, in Butlertown, Maryland, where she served on the Steward Board. She loved her church family. Delores sang with the Love Ye One Another Choir, Booster Choir and the Mass Choir. She had a beautiful alto voice. She would sing until the power of the Lord came down, walking up and down the aisles. Her favorite songs were, I Made a Step, We Don’t Get in the Spirit Like We Use To, and When I Call on the Lord, He Will Come to My Rescue. Delores was preceded in death by her sister, Lucille Blackston; daughter, Della Hutchins Moore; four brothers, Othello Blackston, the Reverend Norman E., Blackston, Earl R. Blackston and Phillip N. Whye; and son-in-law, Wyatt Brown. Delores leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Shelly Hutchins Brown and Vanessa Hutchins; son, Thomas Hutchins, Jr; brother, Wayman Blackston (Arlene); sisters-in-law, the Reverend Janice Blackston and Helen Whye; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
