Della Victoria Kelley

On December 8, 1920, Della Victoria Walker was born daughter of Ethel and Norman Walker of Belle Haven, Virginia. Della attended school in Northampton County. Della married in 19? to Colvon Kelly. They had a son born in 1962 Colvon Jr. their son was a still born. Della and Colvon really wanted a child. Della raised her next to the youngest brother when her mother passed, he was 9 years old. Alphonso Walker. Della and Colvon raised and took care of Alphonso until he graduated from high school. Della and Colvon also raised Della’s niece Carolyn Walker (Peaches) from the age of 3 until she graduated from high school. Finally June 8, 1964 Della and Colvon was blessed with a healthy baby girl Codella Kelley (Kay). Della did lots of field work, while her husband drove trucks. Colvon Passed in 1968. Della was left to raise Codella and Carolyn by herself. Della started working at Shore memorial Hospital 196 in Environmental Services. She dedicated 16 years of service though she retired in 1986. Then she was a baby sitter for about 10 years. Della enjoyed going to church she was very active she was a willing worker for year also a missionary and a deaconess. When her health started failing she wasn’t able to go to church , but she rea her bible isted to her spirituals and keep the faith, for nine years Della was taken care of by her daughter Codella Kelley and her son-in-law Clifton Townsend Codella had help from the nurse aide while she was at work. Della enjoyed going to church. She was very active in church having served as a Deaconess, willing worker and missionary for many years. She remained active until her health began to fail and she was no longer able to attend church. Della continued to read her bible and listen to her spirituals and her faith remained strong. For nine years, Della was taken care of by her daughter Codella Kelley and her son-in-law Clifton Townsend. Codella had help from the nurses aids while she was at work. I would like to thank all of those who assisted with the care of my mother throughout the years. They include Kesha Brisco, Gina Kellam, Puff, and Kanisha Pyron. I would like to give a special and heartfelt thanks to Brenda Lyons. My mom was well known and will be greatly missed. She had many, many friends, but she especially cherished her friendship with Ms. Effie Giddens Spady, Mr. James Warner, Ms. Elizabeth Ames, the late Ms. Mary Sessoms, the late Calvin Brickhouse and his wife, Ms. Betty Manuel, Ms. Vann Beckett and Ms. Mable Collins. She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter Codella Kelly; a son-in-law Clifton Townsend who was like a son; a nieces that she raised as her daughter, Carolyn Carr; a brother that she raised like a son, Al Walker; and a nephew she helped raise, Freddie Beckett gradrand children Linwood and Colvon Carr and a host of other family and friends. Della was preceded in death by her husband, Colvon Kelley, Sr.; son Colvon Kelley , Jr; sister Lillie Christian Albert) of Exmore, VA; brothers Jesse Stevens of Philadelphia, Botinie Walker (Emma) of New Jersey, Clarence Walker(Carolyn) of Connecticut, William Walker (Sara Lee) and Herman Walker(Sarah) both of Exmore, VA and James Edward (Rose) of North Philadelphia; and a dear close friend Mary Sessomss of Nassawadox.
