Deborah Louise Walker

Deborah Louise Bass-Walker, at the age of sixty-four (64), answered God’s call on August 25, 2017 and entered into eternal rest. The daughter of Shahiadh (Myrtle) Shakoor and Edward Shakoor (Bass), she was born on June 30, 1953, in Cambridge, Maryland. On August 7, 1971, she married Avery C. Walker of San Domingo, Maryland. This union was blessed with five children and three step children—Tawanna Walker, Tonya Walker, David Walker, Yusef Walker, LaKoya Jones, Michelle Johnson, Karla Robinson and LeAdra Holland . Deborah was educated in Dorchester County Public Schools. She was formerly employed by Guilda Sewing Factory, Kids Mart, Kinney’s, Shoe Store and Toys R Us. She was most recently employed by Walmart on North Salisbury Boulevard in Salisbury, Maryland. Deborah loved life no matter what the situation. She always made it seem better. She was a positive soul. She was a spiritual soul who did not like labels. She loved God and knew who God was in her life. During her last days, she told her husband, “Don’t worry, take care of yourself; you know who God is, right?” He replied, “ Yes! The all-wise, true and living God, the creator and God of the universe, the Lord of worlds.” Deborah loved reading quotes of wisdom, watching game shows, and playing volleyball. Her favorite musical group was the Temptations. While she loved everything they sang, some of her favorites were “O Holy Night” and “Silent Night.” Deborah was preceded in death by her mother Shaidah (Myrtle) Shakoor, her father Edward Shakoor, a brother Edward-aka Pee-Wee Bass, Jr. ; five sisters-in-law, Peggy Stanley, Pasty Burkett, Hazel Walker Dozier Viola Bates and Joynell Smullen and seven brothers-in-law, Lawrence Brown “Sam”, Walter (Reds) Brown, Marion Brown, Arthur Brown, Jr., Gordy “Bill” William Brown, Edward M. Walker and Levin J. Walker. She leaves to mourn: her loving, devoted husband of 46 years Avery Walker; five children, Tawanna Walker of Salisbury, Maryland, Tonya Walker of Salisbury, Maryland, David (Nicole) Walker of Cambridge, Maryland, Yusef (Sherrelle) Walker of Salisbury, Maryland and LaKoya (Demetric) Jones of Felton, Delaware; three stepchildren, Michelle (Jody) Johnson of Jonesboro, Georgia, Karla Robinson of El Salvador and LeAdra Holland of Delmar, Delaware; three brothers, Wali Bass of Cambridge, Maryland, Lemuel Shakoor, of Cambridge, Maryland and Mikal (Joann) Shakoor of Church Hill, Maryland; three sisters, Carol Saunders of Charlotte, North Carolina, Marcia (Freddie) Purnell of Thoroughfare, New Jersey and Salimah (Brian) Shakoor of Savage, Maryland; one uncle Al Bass of New York; one aunt Shirley Bass of Bowie Maryland; four sisters-in-law, Betty (Willie) Dewdney, Castella (Phil) Stewart, Priscilla aka Dianne Brown and Ernestine (Bob) Saunders; two brothers–in-law, Bruce (Janet) Brown and Vaughn aka Dick (Judy) Brown; 31 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
