David Solomon Wright Sr.

Obituary David Solomon Wright, Sr., known for his wisdom and not holding back his opinion, had a knack for telling it like it is, and always told you the truth even if it was not what you wanted to hear. He departed this earth on December 28, 2018 at his home at the age of seventy-six (76). He was a crazy, kind-hearted man, loving husband, companion, father, Pop-Pop, brother, uncle, cousin, mentor and friend. David Wright was one of a kind who spoiled his grandchildren, great grandchildren and other people’s children and has left us with a hole in our hearts. He loved fishing and was an avid hunter. He enjoyed cooking, shooting pool and talked more trash than the law allowed. He will be remembered for his interesting saying such as “make a cocked eye rabbit hug a hound”, his sarcasm, and humor. He will be incredibly missed by a whole lot of people! He retired from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department and Chipman Elementary School. He was a member of his beloved St. Paul AME Zion Church and served on several boards. He was the youngest of three children. He graduated from Salisbury High in 1960 where he was voted the Best Actor, Best Speaker, and Best Dancer. He was also a member of the football team. He was married to MaryEllen Jacqueline Purnell Wright for thirty-three (33) years and they had four children. For the remainder of his life, he would share it with his companion, Cynthia White Banks, for over twenty (20) years. Cherished memories will remain with: four children, Robin Wright and Lisa Wright Owens (Derrick), both of Salisbury, MD, David, Jr. (Lisa) of Fruitland, MD and Terrance Deshields of Tuscaloosa, AL; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Reverend Edna Andrews and brother, William “Billy” Jackson, both of Salisbury, MD; two sisters-in-law, Vivian (Curlen) Richardson and Paula Fowlkes; three brothers-in-law, Phillip, William, Jr, and Herbert Vass; three godchildren, Keisha Hamilton, Bill Barkley, (Johnsie) and Kisha Cottman; first cousins, best friend, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a host of children who called him Pop-Pop. He was preceded in death by his wife, MaryEllen Wright, daughter, Alicia Renee Wright, parents Mervin Wright and Edna Deshields Wright, brothers, Earl Horsey and Mervin Jr. and three sisters, Edith Wright, Rosalee Wright, and Edith Hood.
