David A. Johnson

David A. Johnson, affectionately known as “Albert” or “Freeze”, was born in Rock Hall, Maryland on May 18, 1932 to the late Jacob and Iola Johnson. Albert peacefully passed away on June 2, 2014 at his residence. He was blessed with 82 years of life. He graduated from Garnett High School and from there went into the U.S Army where he served in the Korean War. He also was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years, Local 199 and the NAACP. Albert was a dedicated member of Janes United Methodist Church where he served on the trustee board, men’s choir and was the church sexton. He enjoyed singing the songs of praise with the 100 Voice Choir. He loved church, fishing and crabbing but most of all, he loved his oysters. For those in the neighborhood he was better known as the “oyster man”. He always had a kind word or joke, and a million dollar smile on his face. He made friends wherever he went. He was filled with lots wisdom and knowledge and when asked how was he feeling, his response would be “slow but sure”. Albert was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jacob & Iola Johnson and sister Helen Johnson. He leaves to mourn his loss and cherish so many precious memories: his loving and devoted wife of 52 years Sarah E. Johnson; Albert was a loving father to Daniel (Margie) and David Johnson both of Chestertown, MD, Toni Johnson-Durant of Chestertown MD; Sherri Johnson- Matthews (Michael) of Atlanta GA.; Byron Johnson (Courtney) of Bear Delaware; Cheryl Butler (Clifford), Terrance Wilson (Myra) and Karen Wilson all of Chestertown. He leaves behind three sisters, Charlotte Johnson of Wilmington, DE and Bessie Beck of New Castle, DE; Rosemarie Smith of San Antonio, TX; four brothers, Allen Johnson of Newark DE; Otto, Ellsworth and Douglas Johnson of Rock Hall, MD; five sisters-in-law; thirteen grandchildren; Eight great grandchildren and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
