Darryl Antonio Powell Sr.

Darryl Antonio Powell, Sr., was born to the late Daniel Voiles Powell and Elizabeth Pritchett Powell on April 10, 1962. At that time, he was the only male in their union. With six older sisters, Darryl would soon develop a dominate outspoken demeanor. With fifteen in total, we were taught by ToJo & Libby to love one another. In unity with Aunt Rosetta Harmon, our parents instilled in us to love God. Darryl received his education through the Lake Forest School District and after his graduation, he worked closely with his father in the family owned business, moving and setting up mobile homes and cooking at the restaurants. Much like his father, Darryl was gifted with the ability to assess and work his way thorough almost anything. If it was broke, he could fix it. Through his travels and relationships, Darryl matured into a provider and strong family man. He relocated to Florida, where he gave his life to Christ and was ordained a Deacon under the leadership of Bishop Eugene Cooper of St. James House of Prayer in Sanford, Florida. Through the teaching of God by his spiritual father and mother Cooper, Darryl transformed into a strong, educated in the word, man of God. He truly found joy in the Lord. He would often greet his family and friends with a question—“What’s the word today?”, and laugh, but truly expecting an answer. He was at his best when talking about the Lord. Always on time, Darryl would often leave the family to make it to church on time. They would have to take the second vehicle. The joy of the Lord was his strength. Several years later, Darryl relocated back to Delaware, where he met his current wife, Tina. They became members of Love Temple Community Center COGIC, under the leadership of Founder, Louis E. Bowers, Sr., where he was ordained a minister, continuing on his journey with God, ministering the Word. In marriage, Darryl and Tina bore two daughters, Breanna Powell and Tamira Powell, two sons, Darryl A. Powell, Jr. and Daniel Powell. Darryl loved his family. His children brought him happiness. He was a provider in every sense of the word. He cooked, cleaned and managed his home. There was nothing he would withhold from his family. All through his life, Darryl, “Tony”, was a protector of his family. Darryl had a special love for his nieces and nephews, passing down his knowledge and skills, just as they had been passed down to him. Attempting to draw them closer to God, he would quote, “with loving kindness, have I drawn thee.” He loved church, family gatherings, fishing and bar-b-ques. He showed love to whoever crossed his path. That is why he was loved by many. In addition to his parents, Darryl was preceded in death his sisters, Marsha E. Powell and Sheila Powell and brother, Daniel Baynard. Darryl will be deeply missed by his family: wife, Tina Powell; children, Breanna Powell, Tamira Powell, Darryl Powell, Jr., and Daniel Powell; siblings, Sylvia Powell Custis, Stephanie Powell Baker (Tony), Sharon Powell Clay (Jack, Jr.), Carmela Powell, Ordelia Powell Jones, Sandra Powell Rayne, Karen Powell Bunkley, Dannie Powell (Caris), Ray Powell (Vivian), Jean Powell, Steven Powell, Joy Powell, Myra Fulton and Barbara Baynard; as well as a host of nieces, nephews cousins, and friends
