Corrine Massey

Mrs. Corrine M. Massey peacefully transitioned to her Heavenly home on January 16, 2021, following a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Massey was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late George and Viola E. Scrivens. She graduated from West Philadelphia High School and moved to Dover in 1955. Mrs. Massey was employed at Kent Vo-Tech High School (now Poly Tech) and was a sales associate with J C Penney in Dover. She retired from both organizations with 23 years of dedicated service, respectively. An actively involved member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, Mrs. Massey was a founding and lifelong member of the Caroline V. Stanley Lay Organization and served as its first treasurer. She was also a missionary and a member of the Christian Education Board, serving, at one time, as its secretary. In 2012, she was invited to serve on the Delaware State Housing Authority, Council on Housing, where, as a member for several years, she provided critical input. Mrs. Massey was extremely family-oriented and very much enjoyed spending time with her loved ones; especially, her children. She was a devoted mother, a doting grandmother, a proud great-grandmother and a loving aunt. Mrs. Massey was in constant contact with her family, whether near or far, and with all those within her circle of love and care. Above all else, she loved and served the Lord, as was evidenced in a life well lived, and manifested in the many lives she touched. In addition to her parents, Corrine is predeceased by her husband, Charles A. Massey; two children, Cynthia, and Kenneth; two brothers, George, Jr. and Gilbert; and one sister, Bernice Wilson. Mrs. Massey is survived by her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Darryl and Charyn Scrivens of Waldorf, MD; three grandchildren, Dakesha N. Scrivens and Nakesha D. Scrivens, both of Hartford, CT; and Julian L. Scrivens of Waldorf, MD; four great-grandchildren, Trenton, Jazmyne, Jada and Lauren, all of Hartford. CT; two nieces, Renee Anderson of Philadelphia, PA, and Luretta Moore (Leroy), of Columbus, OH; two nephews, Theodore Butler III of Pittsburgh, PA and Basil C. Scrivens (Stacey) of Claymont, DE; several grandnieces and grandnephews; three godsons, Melvin Harris IV and Christopher Downes, both of Dover, DE and Gregory Smith of Pleasant Prairie, WI; one goddaughter, Patrice Gould of Atlanta, GA; an “adopted daughter” Dr. Lorene K. Robinson of Dover, DE; “adopted nieces” Connie Guy and Thomina McIntyre of Dover, DE; four long-time friends, Caroline V. Stanley, Edna Sharpe, Patricia Collins, all of Dover, DE and Katrina Smith of Camden, DE; as well as an extended host of others who will continue to cherish the love that forever tethers their hearts to hers.
