Corarain Haster Coston

Corarain Haster Johnson-Coston, “Rain” as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was born on July 25, 1945 to the late George, Sr. and Willie Johnson in Newark, Maryland. Corarain departed this life for her heavenly home on Saturday, March 19, 2016. Corarain received her formal education in the public schools of Worcester County, Maryland. Prior to her retirement, Corarain was employed with Showell Farms in Showell, Maryland for 32 years and with SHORE UP! Inc. in Salisbury, Maryland for 5 years. At an early age, she received her Christian training from Mt. Wesley United Methodist Church in Snow Hill, MD. Corarain accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and furthered her Christian journey at Collins Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church in Snow Hill, MD. Corarain was a faithful and devoted member of Collins Temple AME Church. Her dedication to serving the Lord allowed her to be a part of many ministries. Some of the ministries that allowed her to express her love for the Lord and her church were: serving as President of the Usher Board, Head of the Culinary Committee, Steward, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, Missionary and any capacity where there was a need in the church. Corarain’s dedication to serving the Lord was not expressed only at her church, but she also expressed it at other churches. She loved to attend Usher’s Days, standing proud to be a representative for her church. Even when her health started to fail, she always wanted to make sure that her church was represented. Corarain was an excellent cook and was always cooking for family, friends and her church. Corarain was well known for her soul food. Anything you wanted she could make. Some of her special requests from family and friends would be fried chicken, homemade rolls, potato salad, dumplings and cakes. Corarain especially loved cooking during the holidays for family and friends, always filling their special order requests, while also preparing dinner for her family. She always could be heard in the kitchen singing as she prepared meals for family and friends. Her favorite hymn was I Must Tell Jesus. Her dedication to serving the Lord was also expressed through her cooking. Corarain loved cooking for her church. She would spend tireless days preparing for special events at the church to make sure she had enough food to feed everyone. Her cooking ministry also involved her helping out at other churches who would often call upon her to assist them with special events. Corarain was preceded in death by her mother and father, George, Sr. and Willie Johnson and two brothers, George, Jr. and Bernie Johnson. Corarain leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Leon Doughty of Snow Hill, MD and Franklin (Benita) Coston of Hinesville, GA and one daughter, Floretta Coston of Snow Hill, MD; four grandchildren NaTasha (Donsha) Dennis of Salisbury, MD, Ryan Handy of Snow Hill, MD, Amirah Russell of Owings Mills, MD and I’Teaona Wells of Hinesville, GA; two sisters, Lula (Richard) Robins of Stockton, MD and Floretta Briddell of Salisbury, MD; two brothers, Alexander (Georgianna) Johnson of Salisbury, MD and Severn Blake of Snow Hill, MD; a special niece, Stellafay (Steven) Wright and a special nephew, George (Deborah) Johnson, both of Salisbury, MD; one aunt, Pearl Jackson of Snow Hill, MD; a sister-in-law, Lenora Johnson of Snow Hill, MD; several special friends, Franklin Coston, Sr., Annie Turner, Alice Stevenson, Eunice Foreman and Annie Mae and Thomas Copes. She is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
