Clarence Edward Macklin Jr.

Clarence Edward Macklin, Jr. was born on June 17, 1929 to the late Clarence Edward Macklin, Sr. and Ronsvelle Adams Macklin in Wilmington, Delaware. He departed this life on Friday, October 7, 2016 at Beebe Medical Center. Clarence’s mother passed when he was 2 days old. At that time he came to live with his grandmother, the late Laurie Macklin, who raised him as her very own son. Clarence attended Ellendale School under Nanny C. Goode. He met the love of his life in school, the late Neocia (Pettyjohn) Macklin. Clarence and Neocia were married for many years prior to her passing on December 18, 2001. During their marriage, they traveled all across the United States and Canada. His greatest love was driving tractor and trailer. Clarence was a truck driver for many years with OA Newton and later with Showell “Cooking Good Poultry” now known as Perdue Farms, Inc. until his retirement. Clarence was a die hard Eagles Fan. He loved drag car racing as well as stock car racing, frequenting the Delmar Raceway and occasionally Bridgeport Speedway in New Jersey. He loved dessert and of course his Salisbury steak with gravy and also peaches and bread were some of many favorites. If you would ask him something he would say, “Oh, I guess so” with a twinkle in his eyes. He found great pleasure in asking how old you were and enjoyed asking you, "You know how old I am?” He knew and never forgot anyone’s birthday he was close to. And let us not forget one of his favorite pastimes, watching westerns on television. He enjoyed keeping his automobiles spotless, especially the white and green Pontiac and the silver and burgundy Pontiac. They were his pride and joys. In his younger years he rode his special Harley Davidson around the countryside. Once Neocia passed and until his health declined, Clarence still kept himself busy, keeping his yard spotless and eating breakfast at Westside, Hardees and Jimmy’s Grill. In addition to his parents, grandparents, and wife, he was also predeceased by his son, Travis Pettyjohn and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and his aunt, Eleanor Macklin. Clarence is survived by his loving son, Prentice Banks (who moved home from Baltimore to take care of him as his health declined); one grandson, Travis Pettyjohn, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA; 3 special cousins, Gloria Andrews, Connie Macklin and Stephanie Dismuke; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Allen of Millsboro, DE and Florence Bailey of Philadelphia, PA, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
