Christine Flamer

Christine Flamer came into the world on June 17, 1933, daughter of Byard Smith and Alberta Smith. The Lord called her home on December 24, 2013. Christine was educated in the Harrington school system, during which time period she helped her parents care for her younger siblings. She married the love of her life Leonard Flamer on October 28, 1963. They lived together for many years in Harrington, DE. Christine worked for a time at Dover Air Force base until she decided she wanted to be a homemaker and look after her children. Christine was a member of the New Hope Pentecostal Church, eventually becoming a mother of the church. She was happy to celebrate God with her church family every week until her health made travelling largely impermissible. Even then, the Lord was never far from her thoughts nor she far from the Lord. Christine passed her free time peacefully, and enjoyed keeping her mind active with puzzles. She will be remembered for both her quick wit and endless love and devotion to her family, who will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Flamer; her parents, Byard and Alberta Smith; two brothers, Arthur and Walter Smith and three sisters, Edna Benson, Elder Marian Benson, and Katherine Jordan. Christine is survived by her son, Richard Flamer of Dover, DE and wife, Virginia; her daughter, Karen Matthews of Harrington, DE and her husband, Tony. She is also survived by her brother, William Gordon Smith of Syracuse, New York and his wife, Loretta; her brother, Kenneth Smith of Smyrna, Delaware and wife, Alice; her brother, John Smith of Felton, Delaware, and her brother, Elmer Smith of Dover, Delaware; grandchildren, Takoi, Shawnee, Toni, Rashad, Tiajuan, and David. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Grace Chase of Magnolia, DE and Birdie Flamer of Frederica, DE and brother-in-law, Pastor Ralph Benson, Sr. of Harrington, DE. She is in addition survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many more who will miss her dearly.
