Christian Marcus Mitchell

Christian Mitchell was born September 6, 2004, in Newark, Delaware, to Marcus and Leslie Mitchell. He was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church at the age of five, after having already established an active worship life. He was an avid member of the Buds of Promise children’s choir, a regular student at Sunday School, and would often accompany his dad to the Men’s Fellowship meetings. In later years, he loved to attend Children’s Church at Faith City. Christian was a fan of many things. Prominent on the list were music, cars and super heroes. He told his parents of his desire to be a race car driver. Yet if there were one passion that rose above the rest, music is likely that one! He loved music on pretty much every day of his life! Gospel, 80’s, and Michael Jackson were among his favorites! If you knew him, you know just how serious it was. He was a joy to behold when reveling in his music. Christian was an exceptional person. As the years passed, he experienced the loss of so many of the abilities most take for granted. Yet through it all, not one time did he ask why, not one time did he sulk, not one time did he complain. This was the beauty of Christian and his indomitable spirit. Even as his physical abilities were siphoned away, Christian never lost his zeal for prayer and worship. When Mom Mom came to visit, you could find him saying prayers with her at bedtime. As she read the names of God, she’d hold her finger in the air to queue him to say his part, “hallowed be thy name.” Or, before leaving home, he’d join his mom in reciting The Lord’s Prayer. Left to celebrate Christian’s life are his parents, Marcus & Leslie Mitchell; a brother, Justin Mitchell, Newark, DE; two sets of grandparents, Clifford and Joyce Hughes, Greenwood, DE and Willie Edward and Legora Norwood, Mound Bayou, MS; two uncles, Rick Hughes, Greenwood, DE and Terron Mitchell, Smyrna, DE; four aunts, Tanya Siske (Tracy) and Johnnita Dunlap (Kenneth), Nashville TN, Paula Hughes, Greenwood, DE, and Francine Fennel, Smyrna, DE; eight first cousins, Ebonie Carzo (Watson), Atlanta, GA, Bryan Ricky Hughes, Milford, DE, DeShawn Hughes, Harrington, DE, Ninya and Sky Mitchell, Smyrna, DE, Trayanna Siske, Kennedy Dunlap, and Kenneth Dunlap, Jr., Nashville, TN. Christian also leaves several great aunts and uncles who loved him dearly.
