Charlotte Hurst

Charlotte Simmons Thompson Hurst was born on Saturday, August 13, 1927 in Albany, Georgia, to the late Mr. Clinton Simmons, Sr. and Mrs. Gussie Quimbley Simmons. Charlotte was married to the late Morris Thompson, Sr. in 1947. To this union five children were born. She also raised two step daughters. She then married James Hurst in 1967. From this union, she acquired six stepchildren. In total she was a mother to thirteen children. In her early years, she lived in Georgia and Apopka, Florida. She later moved to Maryland and worked as a laborer. Subsequent to that, she was employed at Bumble Bee Tuna until they relocated. She later worked for and retired from B&G Canning Factory. Mom-mom, as she was affectionately known, loved to travel. She especially loved going on cruises. Her favorite thing was spending time with her family. Although not affiliated with any particular church at the time of her passing, she received Christ at an early age and devoted her life to Christian principles. She was often heard humming old religious spirituals like “Rough Side of The Mountain” and “May the Life I Live Speak For Me.” She attended the Hurlock Senior Center and loved doing arts, crafts and word search books. She was known for speeding through the streets of Hurlock; often stopping at all blinking lights (both yellow and red). She was extremely thrifty; a saver who would give her last. Her grandchildren looked forward to receiving saved rolls of coins. Charlotte leaves to mourn: seven children, Mary Collins of Northport, Michigan, Julia Farrow of Cambridge, Maryland, Queen Brewington and Holy Ricketts, both of Hurlock, Maryland, Morris (Kelly) Thompson, Jr. of Federalsburg, Maryland, Semuel (Tina) Thompson, Sr. of Vienna, Maryland and Michael (Darlene) Thompson, Sr. of Seaford, Delaware; three sisters, Mattie Jones of Albany, Georgia, Odessa Reynolds of Winter Garden, Florida and Ozie Wimes of Albany, Georgia; one brother, Clinton (Carolyn) Simmons of Tampa, Florida and a host of grands, great-grands, other family and friends. In addition to Charlotte’s parents, five brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
