Charlie Lee Knighton Jr.

On January 11, 2021, “our baby” Charlie made his earthly transition. Today we celebrate his life and death. This is a hard one for his family! But what death is not for those of us that are left grieving. Yes, it is hard to understand and even harder to accept the will of God when sorrow comes, and death enters our lives. However, know this, “No lion will be there, nor any ravenous beast; they will not be found there. But only the redeemed will walk there, and those the Lord has rescued will return. They will enter Zion singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and signing will flee away.” (Isaiah 35:9-10) Charlie Lee Knighton Jr. began his journey on May 11, 1971, to parents, Charles and Virginia Ford Knighton in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Charlie was the youngest of five siblings. He shared his own special bond with each of them. He was raised in Goldsboro, North Carolina and in Dover, Delaware. He attended Goldsboro High School. Charlie was introduced to God at an early age. However, after much after soul searching and study, Charlie would accept the Muslim faith. Charlie was a quiet, humble, and gentle soul. He was a hard worker who helped without hesitation those in need. He loved music and many will remember his dream of sharing that love to the world, either by spitting some bars or dee-jaying. Charlie maintained a close bond with Henry Hill, his brother from another; lifelong friendships with Carlos Hamilton, Anthony “Mickie” Watkins and Aaron Washington; and with cousins who were more like brothers, Reginald Ford and Jermaine McDuffie. Charlie leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, Virginia of Goldsboro, NC and Charles of Dover, DE; big sisters and brother, Teri, Marcia, Paula (LarMar) and Paul; his children, Rashida and Quran; nephew, KyReem; niece, Amiyah; a special companion, Sandra Blake; ex-wife Nancy Nanje Knighton of Hiram, GA to whom no children were born; maternal uncle, Kenneth “Bro” Ford (Mary) and aunt, Joyce Young both of Goldsboro, NC; paternal aunts, Ruth Knighton Corpening, NC, Marquita Robinson-Waring and Deborah Flournoy-Lakeland; uncles, Gene Robinson and Bruce Robinson, all of Florida; and a host of family and friends who all loved and will miss him.
