Charles Edward Martin

Obituary Charles Edward Martin “Dump” slipped into eternal rest on August 30, 2017 after a long illness at the Deer’s Head Hospital Center in Salisbury, MD. Charles was born November 24, 1945, in Stockton, MD to the late Wilbert Thomas Martin, Sr. and Mabel Francis Douglas Martin. He was born and spent his early years in the Rabbit Knaw neighborhood of Stockton and grew up in the Portersville (Greenbackvillle Road) area of Stockton. He received his education in Worcester County Public Schools, graduating from Worcester High School. Charles was joined in matrimony to Della Dashield; they have one son, Lovelle Dashield. He loved and adored his family and did everything he possibly could to provide a good life for them. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Wilbert Thomas Martin, Jr. and a “stepson”, VeShawn Bratten. He was raised in a Christian household with a family association to former St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Stockton, MD. His surviving siblings are Evelyn Martin, Doris Martin, and John Martin (Barbara). Charles was employed for long periods of time by Armour Food Company in Salisbury and Hudson Foods in Berlin. He retired early due to health concerns. Charles was known for his gentle nature, caring heart, and dedication to family. He spent many years caring for his mother when her health declined. Once he married and moved to Salisbury, his oldest sister, Evelyn, carried that torch until their mother passed away. Even though he did not have much, he would share whatever he had and he kept his commitments to pay what he owed. He also leaves to cherish his memory: one aunt, Helen Martin; two “step” grandsons: VeShawn Bratten, Jr., Traquon Bratten; several nieces and nephews: Jennifer Martin-Johnson (Jonathan), April Martin, Michael Martin, Tanya Martin, Shawn Watson, Jonathan Martin; great-nieces and nephews: Christopher Martin, Jonathan Johnson, Jr., Jasmine Johnson, and Taylor Martin; sister-in-law, Sharon Dashield-Appleby, and brother-in-law, Michael Dashield; and a host of cousins and other family and friends.
