Brenda A. Winder

Brenda Ann Winder was born to Alice Winder-Miller and the late Frank Ham on September 21, 1946 in Federalsburg, MD. She passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2012, at Christiana Care Hospital in Newark, DE at the age of 66. Brenda graduated from Lockerman High School, Denton, MD in 1964. She went on to earn a B.S. Degree in Sociology from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. For numerous years, she worked in the Health Care field as a Medical Biller, and in more recent years, she developed a passion to serve the mentally disabled and underprivileged. An opportunity was granted to her as a Supports Coordinator for Quality Progressions, Inc. in Philadelphia, PA. Because she possessed a compassionate heart, Brenda ensured that all of her clients received the highest quality of services, and therefore, surpassed the expectations that her job duties required. Also, she worked part-time at the Salvation Army in the women’s homeless shelter and enjoyed volunteering at her church, Mother Church of God in Christ, Wilmington, DE, as a cook and server in the soup kitchen. One of Brenda’s greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren. Cooking for her family and making certain that they were well-cared for at all times was certain to keep a song in her heart and a smile on her face. She is predeceased by her father, Frank Ham and brother, David Ricketts. Brenda leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Kimberly Winder of Wilmington, DE; four grandchildren: Shawn Winder, Simone Winder, Nehemiah Winder and Indi Robinson, all of Wilmington, DE; her mother: Alice Miller of Seaford, DE. Other surviving family members are five sisters: Isabelle Whittington (Frederick) of Hampton, VA; Deborah Blackwell (Thomas) of Lawton, OK; Diane Thomas of Richmond, VA; Martha Stanley of Federalsburg, MD; Charmaine Hunter (Kenneth) of Yeadon, PA; and one brother, Stanford Ricketts (Brenda) of Orlando, FL. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, all who loved her dearly. Memories will also be cherished by her three closest friends: Barbara Brickhouse, Mother Gore and Sherri Irons.
