Brenda Lee Ward

Brenda’s Life... Brenda Lee Winder Ward was born in Delmar, Maryland on March 26, 1947, the eldest daughter of the late Charles E. Winder and Ernestine E. Hughes. She departed this life at Tidal Health in Salisbury, Maryland on Saturday, August 7, 2021. She was educated at Seward Park High School in New York, New York. Brenda later attended Delaware State College in Dover, Delaware. Although born in Delmar, Brenda later moved to Harlem, New York at the age of six and resided there until 2000. She then moved to Salisbury, Maryland to be near her only child, Yvette, as well as her grandchildren and great-grand children. She worked odd jobs until she was hired at Prentiss Hall in 1977, where she worked until she retired in 2000. She also worked at Holly Center in the Environmental Services department after she relocated to Salisbury. Brenda was truly a beautiful and one-of a-kind person. She was always fashionable from the top of her head to the soles of her feet. She loved to share her knowledge of TV trivia and could not resist “spilling the tea” about the superstars with her family and friends. She enjoyed watching old movies and TV shows. She was called “Encyclopedia of The Stars” by her daughter, who often called to ask questions about celebrities, old and young, and of course, Brenda would know. Loving memories of Brenda’s life will be cherished by: her daughter, Yvette Gattis of Delmar, DE ; grandchildren, John (Dante) Cunningham of Harlem, NY, Taice Cunningham of Delmar, DE and Mya Perry of Fruitland, MD; great grandchildren, TaiRai Johnson, Trai Johnson, Taira Johnson and Malaya McIntosh, all of Salisbury, MD; sisters, Maxine Winder of New York and Lartharee Thompson (Jimmy) of Greenville, SC; her brother, Eric Hughes (Sharon) of Marion, OH; nieces, Crystal Hutt of Salisbury, MD, Iman Winder of Jersey City, NJ, Na’Imah Forney (Carlos) of Murrieta, CA, Chandra Fleming of Harlem, NY and Jacqueline Swinton of Bronx, NY; nephews, Faradan Thompson (Leslie) Grey of TN, Tariq Thompson of Greenville, SC, Dion Winder of Pittsburgh, PA and Micah Hughes of Marion, OH; two close cousins, Charlene Dashiell and Shirley Winder as well as a host of other cousins and friends.
