Bernice H. Johnson

Bernice Harmon Johnson, of Ellendale, Delaware passed away peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2015 at Season's Hospice at Christiana Hospital. She was 86. Bernice was born in Ellendale, Delaware on September 1, 1928 to the late Otis Rodney Harmon, Sr. and Sarah Catherine Harmon. She was educated in the Delaware School System. Bernice was a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Ellendale, Delaware for many years. She was the President of the Senior Usher Board, a member of the Stewardess Board, and a member of the Host and Hostess Club. Bernice really enjoyed working in the church, she loved to cook. Her specialty was chicken and dumplings. She had her own vegetable garden and spent many hours canning the vegetables from her garden. She also donated those vegetables to the church for the Golden Age Bazaar. Bernice loved to sew and make quilts and pillows for herself and family members. She also spent many hours embroidering for her friends and the Golden Age Club. She enjoyed going to the Cheer Center and spending time with friends. Her favorite songs were, "One Day at a Time", "Victory in Jesus" and "Oh I want to see Him". Bernice was joined in holy matrimony to Herbert R. Johnson in June of 1967. She leaves to cherish her memories her five children, Ronald Harmon from Baltimore, MD; Daughter in law, Karen Harmon, Baltimore, MD; Phyllis Russ from Elkton, MD; Carl Harmon from Pennsylvania; Shelia Johnson from Ellendale, DE and Constance Johnson from Dover, DE; seven grandchildren, Tamekia Russ, Charles Russ, Jeffery Harmon, Shawando Johnson, Ian Harmon, Davon Johnson, Erniesha Dickerson and Carl's loved ones. Bernice also leaves to cherish her memories four sisters, lona Hyland from Middletown, DE; Nora Steele from Hightstown, NJ; Annie Paige from Milford, DE and Flossie Greene from Ellendale, DE, three brothers; James W. Harmon from Ellendale, DE; Morris E. Harmon from Ellendale, DE Otis Harmon Jr. from Lewes, DE and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
