Barbara Jean Sorrells

Barbara Jean Sorrells, was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to her mother, Mildred Sampson, on July 1, 1937. She departed this life on November 20, 2021. Barbara lived on the Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga. When she attended school there, she would make lunches every day for the students and she was only between the ages of 10 to 12 years old. When she moved off the mountain into the city, she would have to ride the incline to and from school every day. Barbara met her husband, Jack, in high school and they were married for 65 years. She had six children, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. I’m sure her oldest son Thomas Sorrells, Jr. “Chuck”, her oldest grandson, Robert Turner III “Bobby” and her sister, Margie Sampson greeted her at Heaven’s Gates. Barbara and Jack did everything together. When you saw one you saw the other. She loved to cook; (that’s probably where we get it from), and was always cooking for others. She worked for the Willingboro School System, in the cafeteria serving students for years. Later she worked at General Motors in production and then moved to Administration. They both retired at the ripe young age of 51 and have traveled all over this country ever since. Barbara never let any grass grow under her feet. She loved reading so much. We think she read every John Grisham novel he wrote. Mom loved crocheting and puzzles. Barbara really loved her family. She enjoyed planning family gatherings and loved having them out in the park every chance she got. She was always there for everyone. Barbara especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was really proud of all of them. Mom leaves behind her husband, Thomas E. “Jack” Sorrells, Sr.; five children, Michael Sorrells, Dianna Lynn Turner, Anthony Sorrells, Jacqueline Sorrells and Donna Sorrells; five grandchildren, Anthony Sorrells, Jr., Lauren Sorrells-Myers, Eric Turner, Brittany Turner-Heath, Joequetta Sorrells and Gregory Sorrells; five great-grandchildren. Janiyah Sorrells, Kaleesi Turner, Kallen Turner, Harrison Myers and Anthony Gregory Sorrells III; sisters and brothers, Mildred & Willie Johnson, Joe Sampson, Jr., Roy Sampson, Lillie, Garry, Sr., Roshell, Rosa L. Watkins, Brenda Charles Coger, Georgia Wheeler (George), Johnny L. Sampson, Marian Petite, William L. Sampson, Sr.; a devoted friend, Lillian Young; and, many nieces and nephews, dearest cousins and many, many more dear friends. Barbara, you will truly be missed.
