Barbara Jean Jones

Barbara’s Journey Barbara Jean Jones, a resident of Laurel, Delaware, was called to her eternal resting place at the age of seventy (70) on March 22, 2023, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Delaware. Born on September 23, 1952 in Seaford, Delaware, she was the daughter of the late Robert Tingle and Audrey Batson. Educated in the Seaford School District, Barbara was employed by Townsend Poultry in Millsboro, Delaware for many years. She worked for the State of Delaware at the Stockley Center for about seventeen (17) years. She continued her career at the Residential Assisted Living Program, called the Spencer House in Laurel, working with adults with disabilities. She met many lifetime friends throughout her employments. Barbara accepted the Lord as her Personal Savior and was a member of the United Deliverance Bible Center in Laurel, Delaware, under the leadership of Apostle Keith Wongus. Barbara loved the Lord and the church family. She was especially close to her prayer partner, Margaret West. As one of her pastimes, Barbara spent time eating out with her sisters and close friend, Gloria Nieves. She also loved shopping at the Goodwill and the Curiosity Shop. She had a contagious laugh and was loved by a lot of people. In addition to her parents, Robert Tingle and Audrey Batson, Barbara was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Jones-Davis, three sisters, Phyllis Batson, Leola Tingle and Deborrah DeShields, two brothers, Timothy DeShields and Robert Batson and one grandson, Mekell Horsey. Barbara leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Emerson Jones, Jr. (Arinthia) of Seaford, Delaware; a grandchild whom she raised as her son, DaShawn Jones, Sr. of Laurel, Delaware; three sisters, Reverend Dr. Rebecca “Margie” Batson of Dover, Delaware, Pandora Cannon of Boston, Massachusetts and Reba (Chuck) West of Seaford, Delaware; three brothers, Alfred Batson of Lincoln, Delaware, William Batson of Seaford, Delaware and Harold Batson of Laurel, Delaware; a sister-in-law, Jennifer DeShields of Seaford, Delaware; grandchildren, Brenee Lee, Antrell Horsey, Emerson Jones III, DaQuan Jones and Alexis Jones; great grandchildren, Ar’Miya Jones, Audrey Jones, Lyasia Horsey, Mekell Horsey, Jr., Sa’Haad Jones, DaShawn Jones, Jr. and Egypt Roberts, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. Barbara’s favorite Bible verse: Isaiah 40:31 “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.”
