Audrey J. Wallace

Audrey Lucille Jolly was born on August 10, 1928, in Parmele, North Carolina, to the late Henry and Pearl Jolly. She departed this life on Friday, July 5, 2019, at Brookdale Dover Assisted Living, after a long struggle with dementia. Audrey or “Aubie” as her close friends and family affectionately called her, attended and graduated in 1948, from the WC Chance Grammar and High School in Parmele, North Carolina, where she enjoyed acting in dramatic plays. In 1948, Audrey moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she met and later married, in July of 1952, Owen M. Wallace, Sr., the love of her life. While finding her role as domestic engineer to be rewarding and a full-time position, Audrey was very active with the Haddington Street Block Association, as well as, the Lamberton Elementary School PTA. In 1978, she became a member of Third Christian Baptist Church of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1999, she transferred her membership to Holy Cross Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she cherished being a member of the Florist Club for many years, until her health began to decline. Audrey was a warm and loving person. She loved socializing and had an infectious smile that would light up a room. She also enjoyed gardening. Aubie was always decorating and re-decorating her home, trying out the latest remodeling trends of the times and engaging in Do-It-Yourself projects, long before HG TV was in fashion. Her greatest pleasure was enjoying the company of her grand and great grandchildren, always proud of and doting over their every activity and accomplishments. Audrey was preceded in death by her brothers Henry “Buddy”, Latham, Wilbert, Earl, Douglas, and Raymond Jolly; and sisters Benny “Sister” Thomas, Madeline “Mat” Roberson and Dorothy “Saucie” Ashburne. She leaves to mourn, her devoted husband, Owen M Wallace Sr., daughter, Kimberly and her husband, James Logan of Smyrna, Delaware; son, Owen Maurice Jr. and his wife, Traci Wallace of Middletown, Delaware; grandson Tariq and his wife, Heather Wallace of Dover, Delaware; granddaughter, Asia and her husband, Michael Tran of Claymont Delaware; grandsons, Christopher and Matthew Burney of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; great grandchildren, Lorenzo Tran, Everleigh Wallace and Christopher “CJ” Burney; sister and best friend, Lorraine “Ranie” Whitfield; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
