Arlene Batson

Arlene G. Batson, of San Domingo (Mardela Springs), Maryland, was called to rest by her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 in Edgewood, Maryland. She was seventy-nine (79) years old. Arlene was born in Columbia, Delaware on October 5, 1937, to the late Edna Johnson Hopkins and Alexander Gaines. She was parented by the late Ella and Oden Cornish of San Domingo, Maryland. Arlene was married to the late George L. Batson on April 12, 2003. She was educated through the Wicomico County public school system. Arlene began her working career at Marvel Packing Company, various garment factories and Salisbury State University. She retired after eighteen (18) years of service from Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland. Arlene was a faithful member of Zion United Methodist Church. She served as an Usher (she loved Harvest Home) and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the San Domingo Walking Club, the Community Birthday Club, and American Legion Post # 269 Auxiliary. She leaves to cherish loving memories with: her three daughters, Terri “Sister” (Pastor Charles) Rachal of Powder Springs, GA, Teresa “Ressie” (the late Milton Winder) of Edgewood, Maryland and Jacqueline “Jackie” Fooks (Ty Beale) of Princess Anne, Maryland; one deceased and loving son, Gardner “Romie” Gaines; extended daughters, Beverly (Alfred) Davis of Bivalve, Maryland and Shai Adams of Seaford, Delaware; two brothers Marion Johnson of Columbia, DE; and Lester (Alice) George of Baltimore, MD; two sisters, Lona “Nip’ Brown of Mardela Springs, Maryland and Rebecca “Becky” Lawrence of Frederica, Delaware; two extraordinary friends, James “Jimmy T” Morris and Robin White of Mardela Springs, Maryland; 5 grandsons; 12 granddaughters; 19 great– grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
