Annie Mae Cheers

Her Journey Annie Mae Cheers departed this life peacefully on Friday, October 4th at home. God quietly reached down and whispered, “Annie Mae my child, it is time for you to come home.” Born October 14, 1948, she was the daughter of the late George, Sr. and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Mae Johnson. Annie Mae was educated in the public schools of Somerset County. She was a graduate of Somerset Jr. & Sr. High School in Princess Anne, Maryland. Annie Mae was formerly employed at Campbell Soup in Salisbury, MD, Mountaire in Selbyville DE and Eastern Correctional Institution as a correctional officer. After deciding that this was not for her, Annie decided to take a different path. One of the proudest moments of her life was opening her own daycare, Cheers Day Care. With the love, encouragement and full support of her loving husband, Bobbie, Annie opened her daycare in 2000. This brought her much joy; she had finally found her niche in life. Her love for children, her sweet spirit and her ability to connect with people was her gift. It was a gift that she shared with all who entered her doors. Annie Mae received many awards for her services as an outstanding day care provider. She had a deep love for people and loved to make everyone around her smile. Annie Mae never met a stranger and you could never remain sad around her because she was determined to make you laugh. She also had the gift for “gab.” She could never go to the grocery store or laundry mat without meeting someone she knew. This would mean hours of talking, laughing and reminiscing about the “good old days.” And don’t get her started on politics! Her favorite television show was the Have and the Have Nots. Annie Mae was married to the love of her life, Robert Cheers for forty-nine (49) years. From this union five children were born. She leaves to cherish precious memories with: her devoted husband, Robert Cheers; two daughters, Angela Cheers of Salisbury MD and Shannon Miles of Princess Anne, MD and three sons, Michael (Denise) of Dover, DE, Barrett (Katrice) of Salisbury, MD and Jansun of Princess Anne, MD. She also leaves to cherish her memories: two brothers, Jimmie Carter (Ola) of Colorado and Ronnie Johnson (Michelle) of Salisbury MD; four sisters, Carolyn Spence, Valentina Downing and Joyce Bell, all of Princess Anne, MD and Nancy (Orlando) of Dover, DE. She also leaves fifteen beautiful grandchildren—Paris Williams, Maya James, Elasha Williams, Michael Cheers, Jr., Xavier James, Michael James Jr., Brandon Cheers, KaBrya Cheers, Destinee Cheers, Keimani Cheers, James Davis, Janasia Davis, Tae’Shaun Niskey, Je’Karhrya Niskey, and Za’Kiya Niskey; one great grandchild, Na’omii Dixon.; a very special friend, June Jones Brumfield, whom she thought of as a sister and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, her sister, Emma Harris and brother, George Johnson, Jr. preceded her in death. Annie Mae is gone from this earthly home, but NEVER from our HEARTS.
