Addie Florine Robinson

Addie Florine Waters Howell Robinson, was born on February 21, 1922 to the late Oscar and Eva (King) Waters of Allen, Maryland. She was the youngest of five children. Receiving her formal education in Wicomico County; she was a lifelong resident of Allen, MD. She met and married the late Samuel Jackson Howell. From this union two children were born, Claudia Florine and Samuel Leslie. Along with raising their two children, Addie and Samuel also raised Samuel’s three siblings Hallowed Howell, Nathaniel Howell and Ruth Moody. Addie always said it was because after their parents had deceased, she did not want the siblings to become separated, so she raised them, loved them, and cared for them as her very own. This unselfish act has made her the matriarch of the Howell family. She was a devoted aunt to her brother Oscar’s children and loved them as her own. Later Addie met and married the late Willie Robinson who preceded her in death in December 2012. Prior to retirement, Addie was employed as a Government Inspector for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for many years. She was a lifelong member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Allen where she loved singing alto with the church choir. She also served as a youth choir director and was a member of the United Methodist Women. In her spare time she enjoyed puzzles and watching television (especially Game Show Network), but her greatest passion was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also liked traveling to family events such as the annual Howell Family Reunion. Addie loved people and saw everyone as her friend. Addie is survived by her daughter, Claudia Cook (Wilbert) of Salisbury, MD a son Samuel Howell (Deborah) of Upper Hill, MD; step-daughter Gwen Gatlin of McComb, Mississippi; two sister-in-laws Roberta Howell of Wilmington, DE and Estee Downs, Magnolia, MS; one brother-in-law Walter Robinson of Ft Worth, TX; two step-sisters, Darie Hall and Beatrice Evans both of Allen, MD; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; “special” great nephew John Long (Paula), Allen, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Samuel Howell, her siblings, Esther Dashields, Sedonia Thomas, Oscar Waters, Tivola Harper; in-laws Louise Barkley, Hollowed and Nathanial Howell and Ruth Moody.
