Accola P. Horsey

Rev. Accola Horsey was born on March 16, 1940 in Allen, Maryland. She departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on August 18, 2014 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Delaware at the age of 74. Her father, James Rollo Jones, Sr., her mother, Gladys Elizabeth Jones and her sister, Ella May Nichols preceded her in death. Accola or “Cola” as many of her friends and family called her, graduated from Salisbury High School in 1958. She received her Associates Degree in Business from Delaware Technical and Community College and would later complete her Ministerial Courses of Study from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D.C. in July of 2007. Her spiritual journey began at Friendship United Methodist Church in Allen, Maryland, where she received the Lord as her Savior early in life. Accola was always strong in faith and instilled in her family that we all need to have a solid relationship with God, because He is and always will be the answer. She was called to the ministry while serving as a Lay Speaker at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Lincoln, DE and would later become the local pastor at Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Harrington, DE in 1997, where she remained until her retirement in 2012. Accola had a great love for cooking and sewing but a true passion for gardening. Accola and William or “Cola” and “Bill” as many people would know them, were together for 46 loving years raising four children together. She is survived by her husband, William R. Horsey Jr.; four (4) children, Edwin Jones (Diane) of Bowie, MD, Rosezine Marshall (Kevin Sr.) of Milford, DE, William R. Horsey, III (Zulieka) of Easton, MD, and Tyvon Horsey of Trappe, MD; two (2) step-children, Regina Bradshaw of Temple Hills, MD and Kenneth Person (Linda) of Ellendale, DE; two (2) whom she considered her children, Jonathan Russ (Anitra) of Dover, DE and Michelle Skinner of Easton, MD; seven (7) siblings, James R. Jones, Jr. (Doris) of Salisbury, MD, Shelby Jones Barkley of Lincoln, DE, Marion Jones (Martha) of Baltimore, MD, Wallace Jones (Joan) of New Castle, DE, Lottie Jones Thompson of Glen Burnie, MD, Otto Jones (Terri) of Columbia, SC and Alexine Cornish of Salisbury, MD; one foster sister, Henrietta Cook of Salisbury, MD; eight (8) grandchildren, Phillip Jones, Jasmine Jones, Kevin Marshall, Jr. Isaiah Horsey, Jordan Horsey, Aleshia Doughty, Shontay’a Doughty and Antonio Doughty; two (2) great-grandchildren, Giovanni Jones and Jahiem Doughty; and a host of nieces and nephews.
