Valerie Diane Freshwater

Valerie “Diane” Freshwater the daughter of Rosella Conaway Vann and the late Gaskin Barnes of Seaford, DE was born on July 9, 1940. Diane was raised in Bridgeville, DE by Frances and Minerva Blockson. After a long hard fight Diane passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, October 23, 2017 at The Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE, at the age of 77. Diane graduated from William C. Jason Comprehensive High School in Georgetown, DE in 1960. She spent her working life as a certified nursing assistant caring for the elderly, spending most of her work life at Chancellor Care working with an incredible team of colleagues. Diane liked to say that Valerie was her professional name. In 1988, Diane met Jackson Freshwater and on day one, he shared with everyone around him that Valerie was the woman he was going to marry. Diane and Jackson married on August 28, 1999. Diane and Jackson filled their early years dancing and listening to a variety of music, from Gospel to the Blues into the wee hours of the morning. Her favorite song was “His Eye is on the Sparrow”. Diane’s love of life and easy laugh filled the hearts of all those around her. She was a generous, quick-witted individual with a love of game shows. Diane’s infatuation with teddy bears can be seen throughout her home. In her heydays, she loved playing Spades and not just for fun. Later she could be found several times monthly enjoying her passion for BINGO or taking long drives on Sundays after church. In later years, Diane and Jackson were members of the Kingdom Empowerment Christian Church of Seaford DE. During those years, with a smile on her face, Diane fought her illness living the best she could til she joined the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Vaughn Conaway and Norma Wyatt. Diane is survived by her husband Jackson Freshwater, daughters Pandora Daniels (Vance) of Lincoln, DE and Ja’Cherra Freshwater of Milford, DE siblings Arnold Vann (Shirley) of Seaford, DE, Teri Vann of Seaford, DE, Frances Blockson (Junior) of Milford, DE, Andra Cannon of Seaford, DE, Forrest Williams (Faye) of Seaford, DE, William Frisby of Philadelphia, PA, Leon Marshall (Susan) of Woodbridge, VA. Grandchildren, Antron Hazzard, Reggie Hazzard (Brittany), Marcus Hazzard, and Jaleel Freshwater, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, family and friends.
