Sheila Johnson-Brown

Sheila Johnson-Brown, wife of Rick Brown and mother of Rickea’ Brown was born on July 13th, 1962 in Wilmington, DE to Margaret Colson-Johnson and the late William H. Johnson Jr. Sheila departed this life peacefully at home on October 21st, 2016 in the arms of her husband and daughter after a six year battle with metastatic colon cancer. Sheila was preceded in death by her father “Bugs”, sister/best friend Twyla Lee-Wilson, brother-in-law Clarence, and stepson Maurice Brown. Sheila was educated in the Wilmington public school system, graduating from Howard High School in 1980. After graduating, she completed her practical nursing degree at Delaware Technical Community College, but later pursued a career in corporate finance. She was employed at JP Morgan Chase for over 20 years and also had her own home décor business for over 10 years. She truly inspired her co-workers to achieve their dreams as well. On September 10th, 1988, Sheila married the love of her life Rick and from this union their daughter was born in June of 1992. Sheila loved her daughter that she affectionately called & stated in a way in which no one else could say: Rickea’ Anyea’ and their bond were inseparable. Sheila loved traveling with her husband and daughter, taking care of & spending time with her nephew Chase during countless days, crocheting & knitting many items, reading hundreds of books, watching television shows on stations such as HGTV & GSN, and barbecuing & eating dozens of crabs at home as well as in her parents’ backyard. Sheila was diagnosed with colon cancer in August of 2010, but never lost faith in God and was known as “sunshine” to her oncologists, nurses, and fellow patients due to her ability to brighten anyone’s day with her bright beautiful eyes and encouraging words despite going through over 30 cycles of chemotherapy, radiation & brachytherapy, and multiple surgeries. She never gave up hope and kept fighting until her last breath. Sheila leaves to cherish her memory; her devoted husband, Rick; devoted daughter, Rickea’; devoted godson Charles Wilson; special nephew Chase Johnson and special god-granddaughter Cheyanne Wilson; mother, Margaret; brother, Andre’; devoted sister/best friend Patrice Skinner and husband Cornelius; sister-in-law Louise Brown (William); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and relatives.
