Celebrating A Life Well-Lived Katie Holbrook James was the beloved daughter of the late Melvin Holbrook and Estella Robinson Holbrook. She was the second daughter in this circle. Born in Venton, Maryland on January 14, 1926, Katie transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. At an early age, Katie received her early education about Jesus Christ at home and at Grace United Methodist Church. She attended Sunday school and participated in youth activities and worship services. Katie was educated in the public schools in Somerset County, Maryland. After graduation from high school and having a love for higher education, she studied for several years at Morgan State College in Baltimore, Maryland, majoring in her love for Math and Science. Katie held several jobs in her lifetime in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but also with Campbell Soup Company, SHORE UP! Inc. and serving as a substitute teacher. When Grace United Methodist Church eventually merged with Mount Vernon and Polks Road United Methodist Churches, she became a very active member, holding various position in the church until her illness. Trinity Worship Center became her place of worship. Katie was married to the late William (Billy) James II. Their union was blessed with love, mutual respect and admiration. She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Beverly Holbrook and Frances Roche; one grandson, Stuart Roche (Jamilla); one granddaughter, Andrea Broadway (Frank); eight great grandchildren, Aleisha, Delonte, Anthony, Domonique, Aubyn, Deja, Brianna and Brandon; four great-great grandchildren, Nyoami, Cassidy, Alaya and William III; one sister, Emma Holbrook of Hyattsville, Maryland; three nieces, Ernestine Cappaninee of Stanford, Virginia, Ellen Laughlin of Temple Hills, Maryland and Jennifer Wright of Venton, Maryland; her nephews, Shelby Ebanks of Hyattsville, Maryland, Jeffery Wright of Venton, Maryland and Melvin Armwood (deceased); great nephews, Harry Laughlin of Temple Hills, Maryland, Barry Williams of Brandywine, Maryland and Brian Williams of Silver Spring, Maryland. Her memory will also be cherished by her many cousins and friends. Katie was preceded in death by her husband, William James II, parents, Melvin and Estella Holbrook and sisters, Ernestine Armwood (Roger Armwood) and Hallie Holbrook.
