Reflections of Life: Janie Helen Johnson In the beauty of a day never before given by God, God blessed Willie and Rosebud Adams Harris with a baby girl, Janie Helen, born July 23, 1938, in Attapulgus, Georgia. Janie was called from labor to reward on Friday, March 22, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She peacefully departed life from the Christiana Care Hospital in Newark, Delaware. Janie and their family migrated from Florida to Somerset County, Maryland in 1945. Janie grew up in Revels Neck, Maryland and attended Saint Paul's United Methodist Church in Revels Neck. The family later moved to Manokin, Maryland, where she attended Centennial United Methodist Church in Fairmount, Maryland. She later joined the Samuel Wesley United Methodist Church in Manokin, Maryland. While living with her daughter, she shared memorable moments at Jesus is Lord Church of Deliverance and was cherished by all the members there. Janie attended the public schools of Somerset County, Maryland and graduated from Greenwood High School in Princess Anne, Maryland. After graduation, Janie joined the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge. The Somerset County Board of Education employed Janie as an assistant teacher where she taught students computer skills at the Westover Elementary School in Westover, Maryland until her retirement. Janie was known for her quiet, compassionate spirit. She had a love for life and God's people. She loved her family dearly and had a passion for gardening. Janie had the most beautiful flower garden in the area and her vegetable gardens were second-to-none. Janie’s health began to decline, and her loving daughter, Rhonda, took her to Delaware to live with her family. For nine years, she provided loving care to her mother. She leaves to cherish precious and loving memories with: three daughters, Sheila Kearse of Salisbury, Maryland, Rhonda Reynolds (Willie) of Delmar, Delaware and Robin Handy of Princess Anne, MD; three sons, Kyle Harris of Delmar, Delaware and Torrence Harris and Byron Kearse (Ceisha), both of Baltimore, Maryland; two brothers, John Harris (Cynthia) of Paterson, New Jersey and Elder Lee Harris (Betty) of Jacksonville, Florida; one sister, Thelma Scott of Fruitland, Maryland and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Willie and Rosebud Harris; a son, Bradley Kearse; two brothers, James and Leonard Harris; four sisters, Otha Lee Collier, Frances Harris, Fannie Parker and Dollie Fisher.
