Earl H. Brown

Earl, affectionately called “Earl the Pearl”, was born April 22, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Willie and Alleen Brown. He was one of ten children and accepted Christ at an early age. Earl was educated in the Philadelphia School System and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School. He attended Philadelphia Technical School and graduated with a degree in Floor and Wall Tile Installation. Earl enlisted into the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge. He enlisted in the Army Reserve and retired after 22 years of service. Earl was employed with the City of Philadelphia Police Department and the Philadelphia Water Department and retired in 1999 after 30 plus years. During his employment with the City of Philadelphia, he graduated from Barber School and continued his education at the Berean Institute and received his degree in Cosmetology. He became self-employed and opened his own business called “Brown Beauty Salon and Barber Shop”. In 1978, Earl met Prunetta. They were joined in holy matrimony in 1982 and shared one child, Marvin Vann Brown. Earl enjoyed and loved his family, and always one to lend a helping hand to family and friends. He loved dancing and lived and loved life to the fullest. He left a fun impression on everyone he met. Earl loved to imitate different languages. You never knew which one he was going to be that particular day. From southern to Caribbean or just being Earl. He did it with love. Last but not least, Earl loved James Brown and dancing to his music. Earl’s sister, Carrie Bannister and his grandson Jamier Vann-Robinson preceded him in death. Earl leaves to mourn, his wife of 38 years, Prunetta; his son Marvin Vann Brown; six grandchildren, Makayla Vann, Elijah Vann, Carmelo Vann, Niya Boone, India Boone and Destiny Boone; siblings, Willie Brown, Jr. (Pearl), John D. Brown, (Kathy), Audrey Cruz, Reverend Nathaniel Brown (Harriet), Reginald Brown (Yvonne), Calvin Brown, Emanuel Brown and Reverend Patricia Dudley (Roy); his buddy, Ed Duncan, who was like a brother to him; and a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and friends.
