Denise E. Dickerson

Denise Elizabeth Dickerson, known to many as “Niecy”, was born on September 17, 1958 to the late Clarence Otis Dickerson, Sr. and Edith May Dickerson. She departed this life on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Milford Center Genesis Eldercare. Niecy received her early education in the Delaware School Districts. She attended Phylis Wheatley Elementary School and Woodbridge Junior High School in Bridgeville, DE. She later relocated to Milford where she continued her education at Milford Senior High School. Niecy worked at Benjamin Banneker School for 16 years as a Cafeteria Aide. She was known as “The Cafeteria Lady” and was well loved and respected by the staff and students. Her favorite past-time was watching TV. Some of the shows that she enjoyed were: “The Young and the Restless”, “The Bold and the Beautiful”, “The First 48”, “Tyler Perry’s Love Thy Neighbor”, “Cheaters”, “Steve Harvey’s Family Feud” and the Judge Shows. Although she never had children of her own, she mothered and took care of many children. The greatest event in Niecy’s life was her rededication back to Jesus Christ on June 10, 2014. Her favorite scripture was “The Lord’s Prayer” (Matthew 6:9-13). Her favorite hymn was “How Great Thou Art”. She was preceded in death by her parents, father, Clarence Otis Dickerson, Sr. and mother, Edith May Dickerson. Four brothers, Waymond Dickerson, Naymond Dickerson, Clarence Dickerson, Jr., and Jeffery DeShields. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: eight sisters, Gwendolyn Fountain, Milford, DE; Carolyn Collie, Milford, DE; Carlette Dickerson, Wilmington, DE; Lorraine Cooke-Fuentes, Seaford, DE; Patricia DeShields, Milford, DE; Sheila DeShields, Louisiana; Ava Thomas Robinson, North Carolina; and Dione Dickerson, Greenwood, DE; one brother, Larry DeShields (Jerry), Seaford, DE; Step-father, William C. Edelin Sr.; Step-mother, Kathleen Dickerson, Greenwood, DE; one aunt, Virginia Williams, Bridgeville, DE; two God-sisters, Denice Russ and Regina Sharp, Milford, DE; two former brothers-in-law, Franklin A. Fountain, Milford, DE and Gilbert R. Collie, Dover, DE; three extended brothers, Dean, Bruce and Mark Geyer, Milford, DE and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
