Delores Mae Hill

Delores Mae (Vick) Hill (aka - Mama), 87, of Federalsburg, Maryland, passed away at Christiana Hospital on Sunday, January 28, 2018, surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones. Delores was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on November 28, 1930, to the late Silas Vick and Lottie Hawk. She was one out of four children. Delores relocated from Virginia to the Eastern Shore, Maryland in 1938. She attended Lockerman High School and retired as a production line worker and domestic worker. Delores was married to Janill Hill, Sr. on January 26, 1952, and they recently celebrated 66 years of marriage. Delores enjoyed singing to any and everyone who would listen. She ministered by singing at numerous churches, various events, nursing homes, and her home church. There’s no question how or why she earned the title, “Missionary Hill”. Although, she did not drive, somehow she found a way for her spiritual, sweet melodies to reach people from not only many miles away but also from state to state; especially Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. She often traveled to different churches with her daughters; Paris and Patricia, her son; Melvin, and her grandson; Dont’e. She most definitely always had on her “traveling shoes”. Her favorite songs were “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”, “Trouble In My Way”, “May The Work I’ve Done Speak for Me”, and “Jesus, How I Love Calling Your Name”. She also loved to pray for and with people. One of her favorite sayings was “Baby! Just pray about it”. Delores enjoyed talking on the phone with her good friends and family, and absolutely loved spending time with her grandchildren. In 1950, she joined the Church of God of Prophecy, under the leadership of the late Bishop I. J. James. In 1969, she joined the Eldorado Church of God of Prophecy, where the late Elder Thomas Murray presided. She was also a member of the Faith Deliverance House of Prayer under the leadership of Rev. Alvin Peterson and later transitioned to the Clarence Street Church of God under the leadership of Bishop Dr. Carlton Cannon, Jr. (Pastor) where she was a faithful, committed parishioner. Delores is preceded in death by her father, Silas Vick; mother, Lottie Hawk; and two brothers, Robert Lester Lee Harris Mitchell (Bob) and Silas Vick, Jr. (Junie). Delores is survived by her husband, Janill Hill, Sr. of Federalsburg, MD; one sister, Joyce Rose of Hurlock, MD; and one sister-in-law, Essie Sherrin of Carrsville, VA. She was blessed with 7 children, daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Larry Friend, Sr. of Dover, DE, son and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Quintina Robinson of Seaford, DE, daughter, Patricia Collier of Federalsburg, MD, son and daughter-in-law, James (Archie) and Regina Hill of Cambridge, MD, son, Janill Hill, Jr. (Junior) of Federalsburg, MD, daughter, Paris Twyman of Federalsburg, MD, and daughter, Patricia Bolden (Patsy) of Seaford, DE. She has 20 grandchildren, Nelson Hill, Larry Friend, Jr., Elvon Friend, Melvin Robinson, Jr. (Junie), Beatrice Robinson, Teresa Harris, Arlinda Robinson, Belinda Robinson, Janill Robinson, Lisa Robinson, Leah Robinson, Sherri Robins, Tasha Aikens, Donyale Holbrook, Janill Hill, III (Buck), Alisha Hill, James Hill (Scooter), Dont’e Twyman, Dr. Bont’e Twyman-Abrams (Nikki), and Thaddeus Bolden. Delores was also blessed with a special grandson, Kevin Brown; 58 great grandchildren; 19 great-great grandchildren; four godchildren, Hattie Cannon, Terry Cannon, LaWanda Atkinson, and Randall Cannon all hometown of Federalsburg, MD; one nephew and niece-in-law, Lamont and Denise Rose of Hurlock, MD; two nieces, Anita Crumble of Philadelphia, PA and Beverly Teagle of Seaford, DE; and a host of cousins and friends.
