Christine Estella Long

Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:8, 9) On Thursday, April 12, 2018, God called and Christine Long answered and received her summons to eternal rest. Christine was born on May 5, 1934 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late George and Roberta Covington. She attended Baltimore County Public Schools until the family relocated to Salisbury, MD where she completed her education in the public schools of Wicomico County. She was employed by Wicomico County Public Schools for over forty years. She was joined in holy matrimony to Thomas Long on March 1, 1950, and from this union was born 8 children. Christine accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very early age. She was a faithful member of Holy Temple COGIC, under the leadership of Bishop James L. Eure Sr. In 1994, she joined Lighthouse Full Gospel COGIC, under the leadership of Bishop Paul Richard Harmon. There, she served as the Church Mother, President of the Pastoral Aide, and she managed the Culinary Ministry. She served as District Missionary of District II of the Eastern Shore Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of COGIC until her illness. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, listening to Gospel music, and sitting on her porch while singing her favorite hymn, “I’ve Found the Answer”. She also enjoyed watching TBN, loved to make yeast rolls and eat chocolate cake. She enjoyed the latest fashions and all heads would turn when Mother Long entered the service. Christine was a prayer warrior with the gift of healing hands. No one could ever greet you with “Hi Darling” and make you feel as warm and loved as she could. Her motto was always, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Her favorite scripture was, “Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me” Psalms 51:10. This scripture she internalized daily. She leaves to cherish her fond and loving memories with her children; Thomas L. Long (Beverly) of Seaford, DE, F. Priscilla Dashiell (Douglas Sr), Helena L. Hearn (William Jr), Armenthia E. Barkley (David Jr), Lionel M. Long (Carmela) all of Salisbury, MD, and Annette V. Finney of Fayetteville, NC, MD; 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 4 great great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Ida Long of Fruitland, MD and Elaine Long of Salisbury, MD, and another daughter-in-law Marcia Long of Salisbury, MD. She also leaves to cherish her memory a devoted niece Christine S. Postley and two devoted nephews Jaye T. Harmon and Jerryl R. Goslee and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and extended family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her children Carolyn E. Long and Donald G.
