Calvin Vernon "Cowboy" Reed Sr.

Calvin Vernon Reed Sr., 58, was called home after a brief illness on October 25, 2017. He was born January 22, 1959 to Norman Reed and the late Betty H. Reed. He received his early education at Townsend Elementary School and Reading Middle School and graduated from Middletown High School in1977. Calvin was employed at E.I. DuPont, Reybold Construction, Delaware City Refinery, Occidental Chemical Company and D&G Taxi Service. Calvin, better know as “Cal” and “Cowboy”, enjoyed life to the fullest. He was one who spoke his mind and his favorite saying was “What’s going on?” Cal was known as the “neighborhood watch” who could tell you everybody who went up and down the highway. If you didn't see him standing at the end of driveway, he would be busy riding around town with his Uncle Sonny. His favorite foods were succotash, yak, subs and anything at Helen’s Sausage House. Cal was a devoted San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bulls fan. He loved his motorcycle and was a member of the Dover Chapter of The Thunderguards Motorcycle Club. Cal loved spending time with his grandkids and family. He also loved the Lord and enjoyed going to church. We thank God for the precious time we shared with him. Calvin was preceded in death by his mother Betty Reed; grandparents; and daughter, Nyteka Ronell Neal. Calvin leaves to cherish his memories, his father, Norman E. Reed; his sons, Calvin V. Reed Jr. and Jamar A. Reed; two brothers, Norman K. Reed of New Castle, DE and Rydell Reed (Sherry) of Middletown, DE ; two sisters, Renee Reed of Middletown, DE, Dawn Wilson (William) of Smyrna, DE; four grandchildren, Taylor and Ciani Dixon & Marcai and Caden Reed; one devoted nephew, Kimwann Reed, whom he thought of as a son/brother; four devoted nieces, Dondrea Moore, LaTasha Reed, Kamry Wilson and Gianna Brown; three devoted cousins, Jean and Donnie Woods and Norma Watson; two devoted aunts, Celestine Woods and Pauline Evans and Cal’s “Road Dog” his devoted uncle, James “Sonny” Woods, Sr. known as “Unc”; close and dear friends, Dover Thunderguards Motorcycle Club, Sidney Nunn, Slim Burkes, Tyrone Johnson, Sam Stevenson and Don Brooks; mother of his children, Dawn Neal; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
