The late Thomas Watkins was born in Chester, PA on May 21, 1948 to the late Lottie Watkins and Thomas Simons. After a lengthy illness, he departed this life on Tuesday, December 8, 2009. He attended Chester Public Schools, graduating in 1968. At a very early age he joined Ranges Temple Church, were he sang on the Young Adult Choir for many years.
After his high school graduation, he moved to Dover, DE. He worked for the State of Delaware Department of Health as a Lab technician, retiring after 30 years service.
Since moving to Dover in 1969, he has been a faithful member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. C.V. Holmes. He was saved at an early age, dedicating his life to the church and the music ministry, singing on the choirs and playing the organ.
Although he never married or had children, he was admired for his ability to entertain family, friends and neighbors as well, teaching music to children. He was known for his love of animals and his assistance to the needy, often housing them.
He leaves to mourn his passing, two sisters, Sherry Wilkinson of Lexington, KY, and Lydia Simons, of Chester, PA; a favorite Aunt Ruby Malachi, two nieces, Sherrice Watkins and Jemilah Simons; four nephews, Ricky Adams, Brian Simons, Desmond Johnson and Jamar Stokes. He also leaves a host of relatives and friends, including his best friends, Rev Holmes, Sandy Maltini and Mrs. Margaret Wilson, and a son at heart, Keon.
