Esther Myrtle Cephas Cook, daughter of the late Charles Edgar and Martha Rosa Ross Cephas was born April 4, 1910 in Preston, MD. She peacefully departed this earthly life, Saturday, March 6, 2010. Myrtle was the seventh child of ten brothers and sisters and is the last of her generation. Her father, mother, and 6 brothers and 3 sisters preceded her in death.
Myrtle was educated in the Caroline County school system and later worked for many years for private families most noted the Senior and Junior Sisk family of Preston, MD.
Myrtle accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age at Ross Chapel Church, Preston, MD. She joined Ross Chapel and became an active member with the Choir and Senior Usher Board under several other Pastors and currently Rev. Randolph Fitchett. She also served as President of the Missionary Society and was a delegate and Secretary to the annual/quarterly conference for four years. Additionally, Myrtle served on the Steward Board for ten years as well as being a member of the Trustee Board. She also served as Church Treasurer for many years. She was also the host for the Annual Cook Family Day that was held at Ross Chapel Church.
Myrtle Cephas was wed 28 March 1927 in Holy matrimony to the late Charles Martin Cook and through this union were five children. Two sons, Charles Wilbert Cook and Gilbert Jerome Cook preceded her in death.
Myrtle had a great gift of loving unconditionally her family and there were not too many times that you might stop by for a visit and not leave without something she found to give you. She was Mom to more than just her children; there were many others who called her Mom. She also had a great love for traveling, and many hobbies to include, baking, quilting, sewing and gardening. She was best known for her pepper relish and sweet potato pies that everyone loved. She also loved fresh cut flowers on her table.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Argiletta Batson Preston, MD, Rosalie Batson (Louis) Seaford, DE, one son Melvin Cook (Barbara) Middletown, De. 1 surrogate daughter Elizabeth Hubbard, Preston, MD, 23 grandchildren (5 deceased), 26 great grandchildren (1 deceased), 28 great-great grandchildren (1 deceased), 1 great-great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews, a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was a leading role model of love and caring. She was the Matriarch of this family. We salute our Queen who has now received her crown in Glory. She will be deeply and forever missed.
