Richard William Kelley was born on November 23, 1936 in Surry, Virginia; however he actually grew up in Brooklyn, New York.
He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1955. While in attending high school, he met his future wife Evelyn Galloway. Unfortunately, their love had to be put on hold while he served his country in the United States Army. When he returned home, he asked for her hand in marriage and made it official on August 31st.
While making sure he supported his new bride, Richard obtained employment at various local hospitals. While working as a nurse’s aide, he fathered two children: Karen and Ronda Kelley. Richard knew he wanted to provide a better life for his growing family so he applied and got hired to work for the New York Transit Authority as a bus cleaner. He later advanced to become a motorman and continued his employment for 28 years. During those the years, he and his wife purchased a home in Deer Park, New York. While in Long Island, Richard and Evelyn raised their children, became grandparents to Tara and Jocelyn, foster parents to several children and continued enjoy their mutual hobby of bowling. They traveled the world and grew closer by the day.
When Richard and Evelyn retired, they decided to move to Smyrna, Delaware. The couple made friends quickly, continued their love for bowling and added the casino to their list of hobbies.
Richard Kelley was unable to recover from the damage the stroke had on his brain. On February 24, 2010, his brief existence came to an end. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two Daughters, Karen Winfree and Ronda Cain; two Grandchildren, Tara Winfree and Jocelyn Jenkins; and three great-grandchildren, Timothy Richard Kelley Cain, Genard Jenkins and Angel Jenkins. He will be missed by all those he touched.
